World Humanitarian Day 2020

Today that is on 19th August 2020 which World Humanitarian Day. This is a day which is dedicated to recognizing all people who lost their lives or have been injured working for humanitarian causes.

What is World Humanitarian Day?

World Humanitarian Day is a campaign by OCHA, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Theme of World Humanitarian Day 2020

#RealLifeHeroes – 2020 Theme of World Humanitarian Day 2020, A global Campaign to thank the people who have committed their lives to help others. The Campaign focuses on what drives humanitarians to continue to save and protect lives despite conflict, insecurity, lack of access and risks linked to Covid-19.

History of World humanitarian Day

On 19 August 2003, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad killed 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Five years later, the General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day.

Thus first World Humanitarian Day was observed on 19th August 2009
